You may remember that a couple of months back — you know, during what’s supposed to be the coldest month of the year — we made a passing mention of the fact that signs of spring were already popping up, and used that to launch into another screed full of gardening device.
Well, now spring is here, good and proper. It’s been official for weeks now. So what are we going to write about? Well, it’s not going to be April showers, or the flowers that follow.
So what else is there? What’s perfect at this time of year? Well, baseball, of course. And yeah, it’s great that the Major Leagues have gotten started and all, back on March 30. But didn’t you sit inside watching TV all winter?
No, we’re talking about your home team, the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, of the Chicago White Sox organization. They kicked off their new season on March 31.
Have you been to a Knights game recently? If not, they’ve got some new things for you to see, in addition to the gift of getting you reconnected with the national pastime.
If it’s been as much as a decade, you’ll have to learn they’re no longer down along the state line. They’ve moved to a new ballpark uptown, Truist Field. They played their first game there in 2014. It’s very up-to-date, with skyline views and luxury suites — and a ballfield that’s seen as very friendly to hitters.
But even if you were there last year, you still haven’t seen the stylish new uniforms. So take yourself on out to the ballgame and check them out.
Don’t have any baseball fans in the family? Well, you still don’t have to sit at home. How about some professional soccer — or, perhaps we should say, football — as in the Charlotte Football Club?
Charlotte FC offers a lot to see as well, and plenty of your neighbors have been filling the seats to see them. One night about a year ago, they welcomed 74,479 fans to Bank of America Stadium. How many is that? Well, it was an American Major League Soccer record. And it beat out some legends across the pond, such as the legendary Man U.
In fact, it was the biggest turnout in the world so far that year, second only to a match between Liverpool and Chelsea.
Why don’t you get on out and help them put that record in the shade as well?
