Congratulations! 2020 was quite a grind, but you’ve made it through to December! So Merry Christmas!
Of course, we’re not talking about a normal Christmas or anything. After all, this is still 2020, so don’t get carried away. But we still have plenty of Yuletide cheer coming up right here in Stephens Grove, so you don’t have to wander out among the teeming and possibly infectious multitudes looking for a good time.
To begin with, the jolly old elf himself will be coming through the neighborhood on a trial run, quite a few days before the Big Night:
- Santa is coming! You don’t have to be Will Ferrell or dressed like an elf to get excited about this. He’ll be riding through the neighborhood on Saturday, Dec. 12, and in broad daylight so everybody in the family can get a good look: From 10:30 a.m.-noon. So his reindeer can rest up ahead of their coming labors, he’ll be on a firetruck, and – here’s the best part – will make occasional stops for socially distanced pictures. So you can be ready: He’ll start on the right side of the neighborhood (if you are looking at the clubhouse from the main entrance) and will hit every street. We hope everyone – at least, everyone who’s not on the naughty list – will come out and greet Santa with lots of joy!
- Shop at Merry Market. Again, you don’t have to leave the subdivision. Come shop for your holiday gifts and snack on some good eats at the clubhouse parking lot on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 2-4 p.m. The kids can shop, too, with prices in the kids’ holiday shop ranging from $1-$5. Have them start making their lists! Be sure to follow along on our Facebook page for pictures of the merchandise as the event gets closer. Come support our community small business owners, direct sales representatives and crafters!
- Secret Santa Ladies Night. This year, Secret Santa will be going virtual! You should already be signed up, since the deadline was Dec. 7. If you did, the social committee will randomly assign you a neighbor to buy a gift for and email you the name and address. Gifts should range from $20-$25. Please place the gifts on the front porch or in the mailbox before Christmas Eve. Please note, this is open to Stephens Grove neighbors only.
- Outshine your neighbors with Light Fight 2020. Christmas Light Fight is back for 2020! Who’s in? If you would like to participate, please email the social committee at social@stephensgrove.com. There are no rules! For the past few years, Light Fight has been a fun way to spread joy and cheer during the most wonderful time of the year. The winner will be determined by a community vote. We will provide more details on voting as time gets closer. And again, remember: There are no rules!
Well, actually, there’s one rule: You have to have a great Christmas! OK, two: You are also required to have a wonderful New Year – better than this one, anyway…
